The Fender American Vintage II series draws inspiration—not just visually—from the historic designs that shaped music history. We have precisely reproduced many period-correct details: bodies, necks, and hardware; premium finishes; and pickups carefully voiced to match the tone of the original model year. Thanks to traditional Fender craftsmanship, every instrument embodies the authentic character and sound of the original model.
Our Precision Bass was the world's first electric bass. It opened up entirely new possibilities for bassists. Finally, there was an instrument that was portable, electrically amplified, and—above all—offered precise playability! The renowned Quincy Jones described the Fender bass as "...a crucial technical breakthrough that changed music forever."
Initially, it shared several features with the Telecaster, such as the large Tele® headstock, slab body, and chrome control plate. However, by 1954, the P-Bass had evolved into its own distinct instrument with a sleek, contoured design that leaned more toward the Stratocaster. The American Vintage II 1954 Precision Bass captures the sound and feel of the original. It is available in Vintage Blonde or 2-Color Sunburst, both featuring a single-ply white pickguard on an ash body.
To deliver that classic Fender playing experience, we equipped the bass with a period-accurate solid maple neck featuring a '54 C-shaped profile, a 7.25" fingerboard radius, and vintage-tall frets. It also includes a Pure Vintage bridge with two fiber saddles, open-gear reverse tuners, a thumb rest, and, of course, the '54 single-coil Precision Bass pickup.
The American Vintage II series brings back classic Fender models in their original form. It is ideal for musicians who love our vintage tone and playing feel and appreciate top-tier quality—right down to the last screw. Fender American Vintage II. The stuff legends are made of.
